Eco industrial park at Bakki

The Bakki Eco Industrial Park is an industrial symbiosis network in development, located only 2 km north of Húsavík in the north of Iceland. The area operates on the principle of the circular economy where companies collaborate to optimize resource utilization, by promoting sharing of resources and byproducts among different industries within the park. The park is deigned to minimize the negative environmental impact associated with traditional industrial activities, while optimizing resource use and economic productivity. The area is well connected to Húsavík harbour with an industrial road specifically designed for heavy transport. The total size of the area is approximately 200 ha, that have already been designated in the municipal master plan for industrial development.
