Almost all electricity in Iceland is produced using renewable energy sources, with 73% of electricity provided by hydropower plants and 26.8% from geothermal energy, accounting for over 99% of total electricity consumption in Iceland. It makes Iceland special on a global scale and attracts more and more companies that have the ambition to put the environment first. One such company runs a data center in Blönduós. The data center is located in a huge land area at Blönduós, which is organized for industry. Over the past 2 years, the data center has, in cooperation with regional authorities and other professionals, carried out research on opportunities to capture waste heat from the data center. Results show that a huge amount of energy is lost from a data center that can be used in varios ways. Recently, the Ministry of Energy in Iceland signed a letter of intent regarding their involvement in the design and development of a solution to capture the waste heat. We are looking for interested partners who want to participate in finding new ways in circular energy systems.
